It's Been A While

Well it has been a while since I have posted and a lot has happened. I keep trying to post but I want to make sure its a worthwhile post, so now I sit at home with a horrible virus and thought I would try to spend a few minutes blizoggin.

So March was a pretty sweet month, I found out I will be back at the GTI next year, and I'm really excited, I have the best students and look forward to getting to know more of them and working closely with the ones I already have. In speaking about my students we recently competed in the SkillsUSA Utah Championship. My 3d students won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd not an easy task, also all of the other students I had compete got no less than 4th place. It was pretty awesome. A few might remember that I did SkillsUSA in high school. I remember that Johnny G once called me in June after I graduated and I was at Copper Hills working on my contest, he says "Rodger you graduated what are you doing at school" I didn't really have an answer other than that I wanted to win gold at nationals. I never did win gold but I can live vicariously through my students (whom have a very good chance of winning nationals).

So I thought I had more to say but Im getting pretty light headed. Stupid Virus. I'll post more later but I'll end with and sweet picture of Emma rockin out. That's right she's punk rock.

Hey Trevor, member that time we read that thing.

Well I bought that book. Mind Over Matters by Michael J Nelson, writer of MST3K, finally arrived this week after 2 months on back order, can you believe it! It was well worth the wait, this short book full of whimsical essays gives me a chuckle every time I read it.

Here is a short excerpt, used without permission

"It starts when they’re young. Very young, like seconds old. They
have those tiny, incredibly adorable half-moon fingernails that are
fifty-eight times sharper than a scalpel. A quick, not-very-wellcoordinated
movement of the baby’s arm (which is all any baby I’ve
ever met has been able to muster) and you’ve got thirteen stitches.
That’s why the AMA recommends you have your baby in a hospital:
so that any fingernail-inflicted wounds can be dressed quickly
before there’s too much blood loss. Yes, sometimes babies will
administer self-inflicted fingernail wounds, but that’s only so there
is verisimilitude for their claim that, “I’m only a baby—I don’t
know what I’m doing.Waa, by the way.”
Women, wear a brand-new pair of hoop earrings around a newborn
and what happens? Does he offer a sincere compliment, tell
you how they set off the color of your eyes, like the majority of men
do? Or does he immediately swing on them like Bart Conner? Or
try to pull them out, putting one hand on the side of your head for
extra leverage? The fact that they can do something like that and
still look you in the eyes is chilling."

So go buy this book just don't wait two months for it.

I belong to a cult and no not the one your thinking.

So if you haven't read I am America (and So Can You) you should. Upon reading about religion and cults I found that I belong to one, Apple. So it all starts with an iPod soon your buying your second iPod then your first computer, then your second. Soon your running a lab with 45 iMacs a Mac Server and a MacBook Pro. Yes I am bragging but also its getting to be a little rediculous how my love of Apple has grown to need buy anything shiny with a picture of a fruit on it.

So what does this mean. I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy an Apple TV. Cable is for suckers why pay for what you can get for free on the internet (ok so you probably need cable internet but you need internet anyway, how else would you follow this rocking blog). Since the baby has been born our schedules are a little off and watching our favorite tv shows has become difficult. So we use Hulu and other sites (colbertnation.com) with the laptop hooked up to the tv to catch up. But if my laptop is hooked up to the tv how am I supposed to blog huh, huh? I found this cool little program called boxee that helps to navigate all sorts of online tv shows with the help of my little mac remote. The best part about boxee is that you can install it to your Apple TV. So Will I purchase an Apple TV probably not but I want one so everyone will think I'm cool and then I can rent movies on iTunes, stream my iTunes library, and of course use Boxee.

My First Post

Ok so I am last to jump on the blog train. Sure Amy keeps a good blog about family goings on @ blogginbrowns.blogspot.com but I rarely post on that sight. I have decided to see if I can blog on a regular basis, I have a lot to say and just can't find a good time or place to say it. I have thought about creating several blogs but think maybe this will work for the ones I wanted to make. I want one for education, one for technology, one for movies, one for music, and one for me. If I synergize my awesomness into one blog maybe one or two people might read it. So strap in and get ready for the height of monotany.

With Love
Rodger
